Birmingham Meeting: Landlord immigration checks
Business of sports: most valuable sport teams
The list of the most valuable professional sports team has been around since 2010. And 2016 was the only year since 2010 that Real Madrid, the legendary Spanish soccer team, did not lead the race. Dallas Cowboys took the lead in 2016. Most of the teams who enter the top 10 list are football and soccer teams, with 2 NBA and only one MLB team joining the party. This prestigious list gathers only the richest teams, and it is very hard to get onto the list. Here are a few more words about the teams who make up the list.
Dallas Cowboys lead the way for 2016, with over 4 billion dollars of net worth. Most of the value comes from the new stadium built for the Cowboys, the AT&T Stadium. Reportedly, they sold the naming rights to the stadium for around 500 million dollars. They are one of the most popular teams in the NFL, just like Millionaire Blueprint is the most popular online trading platform.
Next up are two Spanish giants – Real Madrid and Barcelona, at places 2 and 3. Real Madrid just keeps growing in financial weight, gaining almost 300 million in the last year. Real is one of the most successful teams in Europe and has a value of 3.7 billion dollars. Real host one of the best players in soccer history, the Portuguese living legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
Barcelona, the fiercest rival of Real, comes in at number 3 spot, with around 3.6 billion in market value. Reports state that Nike pays as much as 175 million dollars every year to sponsor the club. The main players, besides Lionel Messi, of course, are Neymar and Suarez, and the legendary Camp Nou stadium can host up to 105.000 of Barcelona fans.
Then we have the New York Yankees, the pride of the Big Apple. They hold the 4th place with a market value of 3.4 billion. They accumulated 27 World Series titles, the league record. The last title came in 2009.
Manchester United, the iconic soccer team from England, follows. This Premier League giant has a market value of 3.3 billion and a significant part of this comes from a kit deal with Adidas. Place six is reserved for the New England Patriots, another NFL team. The market value of the team is 3.2 billion, and this team is known for a very devoted fan base.
Finishing the list, we have the New York Knicks, the Washington Redskins, the New York Giants, and finally the LA Lakers, another NBA powerhouse.
The Home Office is launching the ‘pilot’ scheme for Immigration checks by Landlords on 1 December 2014 in Sandwell, Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Dudley. MAX has been liaising closely with them.
We invite all stakeholders, NGOs, Unions and other interested parties to a planning and briefing meeting to examine the impacts of the scheme. At the meeting we will explain how the pilot will work and build an alliance with the following aims:
- To monitor the pilot scheme for discrimination and human rights implications for immigrants, Black and Ethnic minorities and any others as a result of scheme.
- To assess the impact on those who become destitute or are subject to exploitation by rouge landlords.
- To evaluate the efficacy of the scheme and the impact on landlords.
